Of course, you don’t have to be a shepherd to stay in our craftsman's built shepherd’s hut; just someone who appreciates the peace and quiet of the natural landscape in beautiful rural North Norfolk. The hut is situated in the small village of Honing which is close to the coast and the Broads.
The hut sits hidden in a private woodland glade and you have this all to yourselves. That's right, there's no one else sharing this site, so nobody to disturb your peace and seclusion although you may be visited by the local wildlife including brown hare, badgers and four species of deer. On warm days the glade is alive with butterflies and bees while lizards bask in sunlit openings. Overhead you may see marsh harriers and buzzards in a wide sky.
Out here in the sticks there is very little light pollution and the dark skies are lit only by the brilliance of countless stars. It’s an antidote to wifi, television and the madding crowds, a time to stop and stare and enjoy a more relaxed pace, to get up close and personal with nature. It's a time to wind down and just enjoy taking your time to enjoy the simple things. It’s not often you can have the luxury of a place to yourselves but still find everything you need nearby. We are far enough away from you to be completely private but close enough if you need us.
We made the decision to keep the woodland glade as undisturbed as possible which means a low impact, eco-friendly visit for those who value the solitude of the countryside and prefer to be completely private. The hut is 200 metres from your dedicated parking bay along a private grassy path so we are happy to help with luggage.
The hut is off-grid but this doesn’t mean it lacks all the home comforts. Along with solar powered lighting and a gas hob, the hut can be kept toasty and cosy with the wood burning stove. The hut is double-glazed and insulated with sheep's wool so warms up quickly and stays snug. When the weather is sunny, as it often is, (East Anglia is the driest region in the UK) the glade has plenty of places to enjoy outdoor living. It is perfect for that weekend break or longer stay – you choose! To see what else is included please take a look at our additional information page.
The hut is a good base for exploring this part of North Norfolk and Broadland. There are local pubs within walking distance, the 'Deep History' coast and Broads are a very short bike or car ride away and the historic city of Norwich is 20 minutes by train or car. The village itself has plenty of countryside walks and is crossed by the long distance pathway, 'The Weavers' Way'. The River Ant which forms part of the North Walsham-Dilham Canal goes through the village and the section from Honing Lock to Wayford Bridge is a lovely unspoilt stretch for canoeing and ultimately gets you to the Broads system.
Norfolk's motto is 'do different' so why not try something new?
We look forward to welcoming you to Wayfarers Wood for a relaxing break. As we say in Norfolk, ‘slow you down'.
